This module is in essence a giant list of choices. First we give you all the standard colour combinations—-who would have thought there were so many! And then we ask you questions that will help you define your personal style. It is often hard to think we even have a personal style, because we tend to think the things we do are just things we do—but it is reflection of our personality. So these questions will help you define your particular personality so you can see if you want to incorporate it into your wedding.
The following article is an EXAMPLE of the content we have in our online wedding planning membership site HappyWeddings.ca under the heading of Wedding Vision. To learn more and get useful wedding planning tools for FREE, click here!
In this module we will address step 5 and 6 of Defining Your Wedding Vision.
Step 5 is about defining your wedding colours. If you have seen my wedding colour video or the document called Wedding Colour Choices Made Easy, you will know that there is a way to use a colour wheel to figure out what colours go together. What I have done in this list is to actually write down the most common colour combinations. There are many colour wheels, so there are many more combinations. For example, the colour wheel I used did not have burgundy. Burgundy and hunter green go well together (especially with ivory). So if you think red and green, a few shades over would be burgundy and hunter green. If you haven’t seen it, the wedding colour video is in the resources section of this module. Check it out, and have fun and enjoy exploring colour!
Again, on the SmartBride Action Plan we have a place for the bride and groom to list their favourite colour choices. When you are ready, work toward your final colour choice.
Step 6 of Defining Your Wedding Vision is about personalizing your wedding. Grooms tend to be very good at this—much more so than brides. What is personalizing your wedding? To personalize your wedding is to include things that express something of your personality as a couple. For example, if you are a cookie lover, and your fiancé proposed by giving you a giant cookie with an engagement ring in the centre, well cookies can be a way to personalized your wedding.
That’s why we ask questions like: What things you like to do together? What things do you share? Do you have any ideas from your first date? Does your proposal give you an idea? How about a key turning point in your relationship?
Maybe a turning point in your relationship was a trip you took together, or maybe it was a weekend of camping. Those can be translated into a great way to personalize your wedding.
In case you are feeling overwhelmed with all these choices—take a deep breath. You don’t need to have a wedding theme. You don’t need to personalize your wedding. Maybe you just want lots of flowers in your wedding colours—-flowers are the most beautiful of wedding themes. And really, anything you choose in planning your wedding is a reflection of your personal style. So don’t get hung up with all these choices. Choose what you want, relax and have fun. This is your wedding, and you can do whatever you like in planning this party. These checklists are detailed because many people like seeing their choices in front of them instead of having to think them up themselves.
The next module gets into more concrete planning of your vision—-the date and location of your wedding. This is a very important topic, so be sure to check out the next video.
