You might be thinking—$1,000 for a video! I could make one myself for free! Well there is more here than meets the eye, and a good videographer is worth the money.

When you hire a videographer, you are hiring them for their time as well as the DVD/video that they will create for you. If your video package is offered by a set number of hours, you will pay increased rates if you go ‘over time’. Some video packages are for the whole wedding day, and yet others have options like additional cameras (and videographers) on site. So check to see what is included in the various packages offered by the videographers you are investigating.

Videographers should be supplying video cameras, including backup cameras, lights, batteries, and wireless microphones to get the right sound during the ceremony and at other points during your wedding day.

A videographer will be there for the times you have contracted them, but their real work begins when the wedding is over. Depending upon the amount of footage, and what you are looking for, a videographer can spend anywhere from 15 to 30 hours editing, and creating your wedding video.

As with asking a photographer to show you an album of a full wedding that they did, ask the videographer to show you a video of a wedding that they shot. Are the details captured? Are the transitions smooth? Are there titles? Do you like the music? Can you clearly hear them speaking? Are conversations cut off? Is the audio in sync with the video? Do you like the camera angles?

Video footage is only as good as the videographer and their equipment, but it is a great way to preserve your wedding memories.
