In this module, we will take you through the process of booking your reception site. When considering your reception site options, go back to the SmartBride Checklist for Defining Your Vision. What were your wedding priorities? What style of wedding did you choose? What was your wedding theme and colours?Have you decided how you want to personalize your wedding? These things will all influence the type of location you will choose.
For example, if you chose style/theme/décor as your top priority, then what the location looks like will be a top priority also.If your style is casual, theme is sporty, and décor is fun, a location like a sports complex might be perfect. If your style is elegant, theme is garden, and décor is summer colours, locations like a winery, orchard, or public garden might be perfect.Knowing what colours you have chosen for your wedding is an important thing to keep in mind when looking at reception locations.Remember that a room you see in full light will look different with low lighting, decorated in your colours.Talk to the reception site about any concerns you may have regarding colours schemes. They will be able to advise you of your options.
Your decisions regarding number of guests and budget for the reception are of prime importance now.Consider whether you will need your reception site to also act as the ceremony site or not. When you are looking for a reception site, you will have the option of a choosing a place that includes food and beverage service, or you can choose a reception site that comes with tables, chairs, etc., but you hire your own caterer, or you can choose a site where you need to rent everything from tables and chairs, to dishes and linen.
In Step 7 of Defining Your Vision, you and your partner identified one or more wedding locations that interested you.Now is the time to explore those locations and get some hard facts. In this module, we will guide you through the questions to ask, and the factors to consider before confirming your reception site.Once your site is chosen and booked, there will be more things to arrange to get your reception site ready for your wedding, but those will be finalized 3 to 5 months before your wedding. This module is specifically about choosing and booking your reception site.
Remember, many sites allow you to book without any deposit and no penalties if you cancel. So if you have a situation where you are down to two sites, and you want to make sure you get your wedding date, you may consider booking both of them while you are exploring all the details. Then once a decision is made, cancel the runner up, and confirm the winner.
As usual, print out the SmartBride Checklist Overview for this module and follow the steps given. The first step will be to fill out the SmartBride Checklist – Reception Site Needs. You will need this information to be able to ask the right questions when you are investigating reception sites. This module also has a Checklist of questions to ask your reception site, and a video on cost saving ideas.Explore them all by following the Overview Checklist for this module.
