Flower trends in North America tend to be fairly stable from year to year, but if you are looking for unique ideas, check out European bridal magazines. They have a lot of unique alternatives to traditional flower arrangements. The newest trend in wedding flowers in recent years has been to move to the single, long stemmed rose for the bridesmaids instead of flower bouquets.
Some alternatives to flowers include beaded bouquets, silk flower arrangements, and potted flowers for centrepieces. Beaded bouquets can be simple or complex creations using a variety of crystals, pearls and beads. They come in a variety of sizes. Check out some beautiful beaded bouquets through the resource documents links.
Silk flowers have been around for years, and today are so realistic that many people don’t even realize that the flowers aren’t real. Bouquets can be made from silk flowers that will last many years, and there are no costs to preserve the bouquet. Instead of using expensive imported flowers for bouquets, you can mix in a few silk flowers amongst the real flowers, and no one will be the wiser. If you are crafty, and a DIY kind of bride, dollar stores and craft stores have huge selections of replica flowers to create any kind of bouquet or decoration you can think of.
Potted flowers that are in bloom can be purchased in spring at your local garden centre or hardware store. Pots of tulips or daffodils in bloom make great wedding table centrepieces. If you have a green thumb, you can plant your own bulbs and “force them” so they bloom in time for your wedding.
Remember that greenery is cheaper than flowers, so use more greenery and less flowers to create your flower decorations. Greenery comes in so many different colours, and can make elaborate bouquets as well as centrepieces. The nice thing about greenery is that it is neutral, so if your reception tables have strong colours in the tablecloth and napkins, simple greenery as a centrepiece is the perfect solution.
Fall weddings are perfect for mini pumpkins, gourds, coloured leaves and so forth that can be used to create decorations for your wedding. These can be picked up at your local farmer’s market, grocery store, or, even through a walk in the park if you want autumn leaves.
If you were to take advantage of Boxing Day sales, you can find many wedding appropriate things amongst clearance Christmas decorations. Silver bells, white bells, candles, ribbons, bows, twinkle lights and more can be had at a sale price.
Remember your wedding vision module. Although it is exciting to think of all the things you can do, less is often more when it comes to decorations, so keep to your vision, and enhance it where you can.
