In our last session, we covered the main types or styles of wedding bouquets.  Although those are the main types, many florists create their own unique bouquets mixing and combining the different styles.  When choosing the right wedding bouquet, you will want to consider the bride’s height and build, the formality of the wedding, and the wedding dress itself.

The wedding bouquet should not overpower the overall look of the bride.  For example, a petite bride will choose a smaller bouquet style than a bride who has a larger stature.  The bouquet should be in proportion to the bride’s overall look.

A major part of that look is the wedding dress.  If the wedding dress is very elaborate, you will want a bouquet that will complement and not compete with the dress.  In this scenario you will want a simple bouquet, without a lot of different colours or flowers.  If the wedding dress is simple, you will want to have more variety in your flower choices or a slightly more elaborate bouquet.  It is all about balance, and it is the reason we suggest you supply a picture of the wedding dress to the florist that you choose.  They will create the right look for your dress.

Then there is the formality of the wedding.  Large, formal weddings tend to have more elaborate flowers than a small informal wedding, and this includes the bride’s bouquet.

There are many wedding florists and wedding floral designers who have created their own unique combination of these classic flower choices.  When the bride is ready to hire a florist, it is important to have a complete list of the flower needs and a total dollar amount budgeted.  Pictures of the bridesmaid dresses, the wedding dress, and pictures of bouquets that you admire will help communicate your desires to the florist.  Remember, they are the experts in their field, so ask their advice.  They know the flowers that are in season, what will work within your budget, and can make suggestions and help you choose the perfect wedding flowers.

Once you have defined what you want, get at least three quotes.  It is worth shopping around, and checking references to be clear about what you are buying before you put your money down.  Enjoy!
