Flowers add charm and sophistication to a wedding, and for many weddings, it is the main décor feature.  Industry statistics state that in 2008, the average cost of flowers for a wedding is 4% of the overall wedding budget, or $1100.  Being an average, in larger cities flowers tend to cost more than in smaller cities or towns.  This is a good thing to remember when you are getting prices.  If your wedding location allows for a florist from a smaller city or town to supply your wedding, include them in the flower quote that you get.  Always get at least three quotes—and compare not just price, but what service you get for that price.

It is cheaper if a family member can pick up and set up the flowers, but don’t expect your Aunt Mabel to know or understand the design vision of the florist.  So, if you are going with simple flower arrangements, having a family member set up the flowers can be acceptable.  If your flower design is more extravagant and detailed, you will want your florist to look after the set up of the flowers at your ceremony and reception.

There are three kinds of flowers you will need for your wedding.  The first is the bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres.  Traditionally, the wedding bouquets for the bridal party are paid for by the bride and her family; and the corsages, boutonnieres, and the bride’s bouquet are paid for by the groom and his family.
